Have You Hugged Your Pastor Today?

Well, maybe you don't have to hug your elders, but have you honored them lately? A dear brother emailed the following Scriptures to me & a few others not long ago to encourage us to toward this end. I'd like to, in turn, encourage you to do the same.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-14 “We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all.”

Hebrews 13:17 “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.

Romans 10:14-15 “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!"

1 Timothy 5:17 “Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching.”

Philippians 2:29-30 “So receive him in the Lord with all joy, and honor such men, for he nearly died for the work of Christ, risking his life to complete what was lacking in your service to me.”

1 Corinthians 16:17-18 “I rejoice at the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus, because they have made up for your absence, for they refreshed my spirit as well as yours. Give recognition to such men.”

Perhaps you could send them an email - or better yet, handwrite them a note & mail it to them. Buy them a gift card to their favorite restaurant... offer to babysit their children for a night out... the options are unlimited. I know that "Pastor Appreciation Month" isn't until the fall, but why wait?

The pastors at our church are hugging one another continually... I hope I'm not too much of a drag on my fellows pastors.

Peace, A-rone
